The Lawrence Weston Turbine

This turbine is special for three reasons

  1. It is Community Owned
  2. It is the largest turbine in England
  3. It is the same size as the 13 that are proposed for Mynydd Maen.

The turbine cost £6m and it is proudly owned by Ambition Community Energy CIC  which is part of Ambition Lawrence Weston, a community organisation for a less-well-off suburb of Bristol. Is is situated 5km from the community in an industrial estate in Avonmouth, between a very large scrapyard and a gas fired power station.

The turbine is 150m tip height and it is the only one in England this high.

The owners are proud to tell you that the turbine is almost as tall as The Blackpool Tower.

(In contrast RES did not indicate to us that the turbines were unusually large.)

Here is another representation to show how big these turbines really are.

This video shows you how big this turbine is, much better than a photograph.
